Typhoons Ketsana & Parma (Philippines)
Commonly known as Ondoy & Pepeng. First, Ondoy made landfall late September dumping more than a month's worth of rain in a matter of 6 hours on the Island of Luzon. A week later, Pepeng made landfall on that same island, but this time in the mountainous areas of the Cordilleras causing massive landslides. These twin storms affected approximately 6.8 million lives, while displacing nearly a million people, injuring thousands and killing nearly 1,000 people.
Sumatra Earthquakes (Indonesia)
On September 30th, a major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 hit the southern coast of Sumatra, Indonesia killing more than 1,300 people, with thousands more trapped in collapsed buildings and under landslides.
These disasters are as devastating in magnitude as that of Hurricane Katrina

Chicagoland Coalition for Asian Disaster Relief (CCADR)CCADR is a group of volunteer individuals from various ethnic backgrounds who decided to combine their skills and talents to raise awareness and relief funds for victims of recent natural disasters in the Philippines and Indonesia. It was started by Rexcrisanto Delson, an American Filipino-Igorot, who felt a deep calling to help not only his fellow Igorots and Filipinos, but all who suffer from the disasters. In addition, it is the group's goal to inspire others to help in any way they can while proving that anyone can help by supporting credible relief organizations that already exist.
